About the Old Chiangmai Cultural Center Khantoke Dinner Show

The very first Khantoke Dinner Show was created right here at Old Chiangmai in 1970, to showcase the traditional culture of Northern Thailand, known as Lanna. Lanna culture has evolved over centuries, and much of what you will witness on stage is timeless. Many of the dances were created within the last 150 years – the most recent in 1957 – yet all of them have their origins in traditional dance that is very much older.

What is a Khantoke dinner?

Khantoke (also spelled kantoke or khan toke) is the traditional Lanna way of sharing a meal. Several small dishes are served together on a khantoke – a low, round pedestal tray used as a dining table – and enjoyed with sticky rice or jasmine rice.
